Embark on a journey through charming traditional villages and areas of unparalleled natural beauty. Your adventure begins and concludes in Halki, a captivating village known for its remarkable neoclassical architecture. As you depart from Halki, you will traverse the scenic Tragea valley, where Byzantine churches of distinct architectural styles and varying historical periods are scattered, some adorned with stunning frescoes.
Your hike will lead you through the region's olive orchards, fig groves, and citrus farms, culminating at Panagia Drosiani, one of the oldest churches in the Balkans, dating back to the 6th century AD. This church is considered one of Naxos' most significant Christian monuments.
Midway through your trek, you will reach the village of Moni. After a short break under the trees, you proceed to the charming villages of Kaloxylos and Akadimoi. There, you will make a stop at the old Olive press factory. In this atmospheric space, you will discover the way in which olive oil was produced a hundred years ago. Then, in the heart of Kaloxylos village, a visit to the folklore museum awaits, allowing you to step back in time and marvel at rare exhibits from a bygone era.
The lush forests, earthy trails, cobblestone pathways, a verdant gorge, and clusters of oak and plane trees harmonize to create an unforgettable hiking experience. Throughout the journey, you will be embraced by nature.
Upon completing your hike, a visit to the local distillery producing Kitron, Naxos' famed citrus-based liqueur, awaits. This provides an opportunity to raise a toast to life, laughter, newfound friendships, and a day etched in memory.
The hike ends with an optional delectable meal at one of the island's finest traditional tavernas, nestled under the cool shade of a climbing grapevine.
