You begin your morning ride from our shop in the heart of Naxos town, heading towards the charming village of Engares. Here, you visit one of the island's oldest olive oil presses, dating back to the late 1800s. The surrounding area is one of the island's most historic farmlands, with fields rich in olive trees and a variety of vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, and more.
After learning about the traditional methods the locals used to produce olive oil, you continue your journey to the fascinating archaeological site of Kouros. This area was once a bustling quarry, where skilled sculptors created masterpieces that are now displayed in Greek museums. The statue itself is located near the riverbed and tucked away within the Flerio gorge, a hidden gem in the landscape.
After a short visit to the site, you head back toward Naxos town. On the way, you encounter the impressive aqueduct, built between the 6th and 8th centuries AD, which once provided water to the surrounding area and the main city. With an 11km span, you will pass sections of the ancient pipes and tunnels as you bike through the scenic villages of Melanes, Agios Thalaleos, and Aggidia.
The return journey is relatively short, and after just a few kilometers, you will catch your first glimpse of Naxos town from afar, signaling the end of your ride as you return to where you began.
