Your morning ride begins at the bike rental office in the heart of Naxos town, under the Post Office, with a scenic journey toward Sangri village, a historic settlement once favored by the Venetians during their 13th-century occupation of the island. The village stands out for its unique architecture, which deviates from the typical Greek island style, offering a glimpse into its rich Venetian past.
After cycling through the village, you continue on to the impressive Temple of Demeter. Built around 530 BC from the renowned Naxian 'crystalina' marble, considered among the finest in Greece, the temple remains in excellent condition, offering a remarkable example of ancient Greek craftsmanship and preservation.
Next, the ride takes you up to the Bazeos Tower before heading toward the picturesque village of Damalas. Here, you will meet Mr. Manolis, a skilled potter who will introduce you to the age-old art of pottery-making, a craft that has been passed down through generations.
After this fascinating stop, the journey continues toward Halki, once the commercial center and capital of Naxos in the 18th century. Wander through the village's charming narrow alleys, each one hiding a piece of history. The village offers the perfect setting to enjoy a refreshing coffee or drink while taking in the cool breeze that flows through its streets.
The ride then takes you toward Potamia village, known as the "village of rivers". In the winter and spring, the village is alive with running waters, making it an enchanting place to pass through.
The way back is mostly downhill, offering a smooth and easy descent. After about an hour of downhill cycling, you reach the outskirts of Naxos town, where you will cruise through the town before arriving back at the starting point, completing your unforgettable adventure.
