Moutsouna, once the port of Apiranthos village on the island's eastern coast, was a bustling export hub when emery was in high demand. The emery air-train, which once transported the precious cargo from the mines to this charming little harbor, was at its peak many years ago. Since then, the area has remained almost untouched, preserving its nostalgic charm, with remnants of the cable car system and towers still visible. In recent years, Moutsouna has started to develop into a tourist destination, attracting visitors with its natural beauty and the series of coves along the southeastern coast, extending all the way to Panermos ancient port. The whole area is considered one of the most picturesque parts of Naxos.
The tour begins from the beach near the port of Moutsouna, where you will quickly paddle past the old cranes on the dock. The planned route takes you around the unique Moutsouna peninsula, known for its remarkable geological formations, reaching as far as the impressive Azalas beach. Along the way, you will stop at small, secluded beaches perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and cliff jumping, far from the crowds. The tour is held in a small group, ensuring a personalized experience with an expert guide. You will paddle at a leisurely pace, discovering both small and large sea caves, and with some luck, we might spot monk seals or sea turtles.
This kayak trip lasts approximately five hours, including 2.5 hours of paddling and another 2.5 hours on the beaches for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying snacks and coffee. As the day comes to an end, filled with beautiful memories and pictures, you will return to the starting point for a final swim.
